چکیده

Recently, there has been significant interest in the study of the community search problem in social and information networks: given one or more query nodes, find densely connected communities containing the query nodes. However, most existing studies do not address the “free rider” issue, that is, nodes far away from query nodes and irrelevant to them are included in the detected community. Some state-of-the-art models have attempted to address this issue, but not only are their formulated problems NP-hard, they do not admit any approximations without restrictive assumptions, which may not always hold in practice. In this paper, given an undirected graph G and a set of query nodes Q, we study community search using the k-truss based community model. We formulate our problem of finding a closest truss community (CTC), as finding a connected k-truss subgraph with the largest k that contains Q, and has the minimum diameter among such subgraphs. We prove this problem is NP-hard. Furthermore, it is NP-hard to approximate the problem within a factor (2−ε), for any ε > 0. However, we develop a greedy algorithmic framework, which first finds a CTC containing Q, and then iteratively removes the furthest nodes from Q, from the graph. The method achieves 2approximation to the optimal solution. To further improve the efficiency, we make use of a compact truss index and develop efficient algorithms for k-truss identification and maintenance as nodes get eliminated. In addition, using bulk deletion optimization and local exploration strategies, we propose two more efficient algorithms. One of them trades some approximation quality for efficiency while the other is a very efficient heuristic. Extensive experiments on 6 real-world networks show the effectiveness and efficiency of our community model and search algorithms.

Hardness of Approximate Nearest Neighbor Search

We prove conditional near-quadratic running time lower bounds for approximate Bichromatic Closest Pair with Euclidean, Manhattan, Hamming, or edit distance. Specifically, unless the Strong Exponential Time Hypothesis (SETH) is false, for every δ > 0 there exists a constant ε > 0 such that computing a (1 + ε)-approximation to the Bichromatic Closest Pair requires Ω (

Approximate K-D Tree Search for Efficient ICP

A method is presented that uses an Approximate Nearest Neighbor method for determining correspondences within the Iterative Closest Point Algorithm. The method is based upon the k-d tree. The standard k-d tree uses a tentative backtracking search to identify nearest neighbors. In contrast, the Approximate k-d tree (Ak-d tree) applies a depthfirst nontentative search to the k-d tree structure. T...

تشخیص اجتماعات ترکیبی در شبکه‌های اجتماعی

One of the great challenges in Social Network Analysis (SNA) is community detection. Community is a group of vertices which have high intra connections and sparse inter connections. Community detection or Clustering reveals community structure of social networks and hidden relationships among their constituents. By considering the increase of datasets related to social networks, we need scalabl...

An Optimized Firefly Algorithm based on Cellular Learning Automata for Community Detection in Social Networks

The structure of the community is one of the important features of social networks. A community is a sub graph which nodes have a lot of connections to nodes of inside the community and have very few connections to nodes of outside the community. The objective of community detection is to separate groups or communities that are linked more closely. In fact, community detection is the clustering...

Week 3: Approximate Near Neighbor Search

Last week we discussed the randomized O(n) expected time algorithm to compute the closest pair of points in the plane. This week we continue with a related data structure problem: (approximate) near neighbor search. Suppose you have a database D of n entries: images, text documents, census data, etc. Using a Dictionary data structure, for example a B-tree or a hash table, you can check if an en...
